Curators of the website in-out center archives are Tineke Reijnders and Corinne Groot.
The plans to set up this website took shape during the exhibition In-Out Center at De Appel, Amsterdam which took place from november 15 – december 11, 2016. Original artworks, documents and stories were assembled to be presented to the public as a collection, but only for a short time.
There is no physical In-Out Center Archive, the artworks and documentation is scattered. It belongs to the artists involved as well as to collectors, galleries and institutions. By creating an online archive the research about the In-Out Center becomes tangible and accessible to an international audience.
Tineke Reijnders took care of the texts.
Tineke Reijnders is an art historian and critic. She has written on contemporary art for several magazines, specialising on artists' initiatives. Dutch weekly De Groene Amsterdammer has published her texts on artist-run spaces in the eighties. Reijnders intends to continue researching independent non-profit artists' initiatives, shifting them out of the critical shade.
The In-Out Center is the oldest artists' initiative in the Netherlands, and the first to be presented in this context.
Reijnders acknowledges the help of Hetty Huisman (1941–2017), who put her on the track to pursue this project. She is grateful to all involved artists for their information.
Corinne Groot researched, assembled and described all the archival and visual documentation.
Groot is a historian and curator. She was co-founder of Zapp Magazine, an international artzine released on VHS videotape in the 90’s. Through Zapp Productions she has curated and designed exhibitions for museums and galleries, and researches art inventories for artists and collectors. In many projects, such as the exhibition Cardena Warming Up, the link between different generations of artists is explored. www.zappmagazine.nl
